The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society has confirmed the full schedule of equine classes for the 2025 Winter Fair, with judging taking place on Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 November.

Monday’s schedule

Judging will begin at 9am with the Coloured Horses and Ponies, followed by the Welsh Mountain Ponies (Section A), Welsh Ponies (Section B) and Welsh Part-Bred classes.

Coloured Horses and Ponies will be judged by Mrs Emma Barrow (Cumbria), with classes for foals and yearlings, including CHAPS (UK) and BSPA qualifiers.

Mr Harold Zoet (Holland) will oversee the Welsh Mountain Ponies, while Mrs Vicky Stephens (Somerset) will judge the Welsh Ponies.

The Welsh Part-Bred section, judged by Ms Anna Roberts (Anglesey), includes classes for foals and yearlings both under and over 148cm.

Each section will culminate in a championship, with RWAS rosettes, WPCS Bronze Medals, and cash prizes of £100 for the Champion and £50 for the Reserve.

Tuesday’s schedule

Tuesday will feature the Sport Horses, judged by Mr Mathew Ainsworth (Herefordshire), along with the Welsh Ponies (Cob Type – Section C) and Welsh Cobs (Section D), judged by Mr Geoff Kingham (Gwynedd) and Mr Dean Prater (Northamptonshire) respectively.

The day will conclude with the Welsh Championship, judged by Mrs Joycelyn Price (Herefordshire), and the prestigious Supreme Championship, judged by Ms Helen Williams (Gwynedd).

Both championships offer significant rewards, including the Vardra Perpetual Trophy and Dillwyn Thomas Perpetual Challenge Rose Bowl, with £250 for the Supreme Champion and £150 for the Reserve.

New for this year, a dedicated area in the Farriery Pavilion will showcase magnificent Heavy Horses alongside the Hound Show, which will be held in a marquee nearby. Building on the hugely popular Heavy Horse Village first introduced by Caernarfon’s Ambassador Rhys Griffiths at the Royal Welsh Show, this exciting new feature will also include live farriery demonstrations and impressive displays – a must-see attraction.

The Winter Fair opens to the public at 8am each day, promising two action-packed days filled with competitions, shopping, food and drink, and festive celebrations.

Early-bird tickets are available online now until 9th November. Adult tickets are priced at £22 for Monday, £20 for Tuesday, £5 for children, with free entry for under 5s. RWAS members enjoy exclusive discounts.
