Famous Shires return from Household Cavalry for parade

A parade is planned this month to welcome home to North Pembrokeshire two gentle giants from the Household Cavalry.

Dyfed Shire Horse Farm will host a visit from the Household Cavalry on Saturday and Sunday, 20th and 21st September, when homebred shires Drum Horse Major Apollo and Drum Horse Major Juno will be on parade.

Dyfed Shire Horse Farm said: “We are delighted and honoured that we will be hosting a visit from the Household Cavalry in September.

“Our two homegrown shires Drum Horse Major Apollo and Drum Horse Major Juno will be returning to Pembrokeshire together on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday 20th/21st September.

“They will parade on the farm on both days and we also have planned an evening of entertainment on the Saturday evening.

“More details to follow, but if you'd like to meet our duo of heroes back here in West Wales where their journey began, make sure to add the dates into your diaries!”

Major Apollo, or Ed as he was known on the farm in Eglwyswrw where he was raised, joined the then Queen’s Household Cavalry in 2019. The ceremonial drum horse led 200 other horses on the procession route for the King’s Coronation on the streets of London, carrying the ceremonial kettle drum.
