Emily, 29, is the daughter of legend of the sport, Mary King. She is based near Holywell in Flintshire, where she runs a yard with her partner Sam Ecroyd.

Emily and Valmy were sitting fifth after dressage, and notched up 7.2 time penalties on cross country. On the final day, just one pole down meant a final score of 38.5, and fifth place.

The placing was one lower than her first Badminton completion last year, when the pair finished 4th.

“He’s one of the best horses here. I’m so lucky to have him,” said Emily.
